Bengaluru came alive today with a surge of excitement as Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a swift but highly impactful visit. In just four hours, he launched vital infrastructure projects, promising faster commutes and smoother travel for millions of residents.

Metro Magic: Namma Metro’s Yellow Line Unveiled

The highlight of the visit was the launch of Namma Metro’s Yellow Line, stretching from Ragigudda to Bommasandra. Covering 19 km with 16 stations, this elevated line was completed over eight years and cost ₹7,610 crore. Today, PM Modi, along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, officially opened it.

With three train sets in operation, services begin Monday at 5 AM. Experts estimate this line could serve up to 8 lakh daily commuters, benefiting everyone from office-goers to students and factory workers. The metro’s sleek design, efficient timing, and expected ridership mark a major shift in urban transit.

Vande Bharat Goes South: Three New Trains Unveiled

PM Modi also flagged off three new Vande Bharat Express trains. This includes the newly launched Bengaluru–Belagavi route, along with virtual flag-offs of the Amritsar–Katra and Nagpur–Pune lines.

The Bengaluru–Belagavi service, covering 606 km in approximately 8.5 hours, adds India’s 71st Vande Bharat line. Equipped with modern amenities like Wi-Fi and comfortable seats, these trains promise faster, more reliable travel across the region.

Laying Foundations: Transit for Tomorrow

Beyond these launches, Modi laid the foundation stone for the Metro Phase-3 Orange Line, which will span 44 km with 31 elevated stations and cost ₹15,610 crore. This extension represents a massive leap toward expanding Karnataka’s urban transit footprint further.

City in Motion: Traffic Flow & Security

Bengaluru’s streets were occupied by a massive security bubble during the visit – about 10,000 police officers, traffic restrictions, roadblocks, and checkpoints. Major highways like Hosur Road and Electric City flyover were affected, adding some disruption, but ensuring safe passage for national leaders.

Everyday Impact: What This Means for Bengaluru

  • Faster commuting: Metro riders will save significant travel time, especially on busy corridors.
  • Regional connectivity: The Vande Bharat train links key Karnataka cities, enhancing mobility and economic synergy.
  • Future-ready: These infrastructure developments point to a future with fewer traffic jams, cleaner city lungs, and better accessibility.
